Our community

Our community is at the heart of everything we do.

Across Hawke’s Bay, we support a diverse group of members who come together through a shared love of sport, movement, connection, and fun. While every individual is unique, what connects them is the opportunity to participate, belong, and grow through inclusive sport and recreation.

Who DSRHB supports

Our members range from tamariki through to adults, with a wide mix of abilities, interests, cultures, and lived experiences. Some are just beginning their sporting journey, while others have been involved for many years, building confidence, friendships, and skills along the way.

We support people across a range of disabilities, including neurodiversity, intellectual and physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and genetic conditions. Each person brings something valuable to our community, and every programme is shaped with their needs, strengths, and goals in mind.

More than sport. A place to belong, grow, and shine.

Behind every member is a story - of progress, courage, laughter, and achievement. Whether it’s learning a new skill, attending a first session, making a friend, or simply feeling part of something, these moments are what define our community.

Why this matters
We are proud of who we support, and even prouder of the community they create together. This diversity is what strengthens our programmes and ensures we continue to grow meaningful, inclusive opportunities for all.

Where our members are from

Our membership spans across the Hawke’s Bay region, with strong participation in both urban and rural communities. While activities are delivered across multiple locations, what remains consistent is the sense of connection, inclusion, and belonging created when our members come together.

Age, diversity and representation

Our community reflects a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and identities. From young children taking their first steps into sport through to adults continuing long-term participation, every stage of life is represented in our programmes.

We also support a diverse ethnic community, and our programmes are designed to be inclusive, welcoming, and responsive to different cultural needs and experiences.
